Elegy

He left when she was two
She grew up without a father figure
She lost a friend
A playmate
Half of her

She was left with a mother
Who did everything for her
Her mom was her superwoman
She knows how hard it is
Taking care of two kids on your own

She worked so hard to keep a roof on their heads
and food in their mouths
Working two jobs
Double shifts so they can buy necessities

People ask her about her father
She doesn't know what to respond
So she whispers "he left"

It's been seven years
and now he wants in...

After all this time
Why now?
She wonders

He left like nothing
He found a new family
She just didn't get it
Why didn't he leave?

She just wanted an explanation
Were they not good enough for him?
And now he wants to be in her life again
But it's too late
Because in her eyes, he's dead
