The Year We Disappeared

Today in English class, I was able to read a book that I've been wanting to read, but never had the time to. It's called The Year We Disappeared. It's a book where it's from two people's perspectives, the daughter, Cylin Busby, and the dad, John Busby. John is a cop on Cape Cod, in Falmouth, Massachusetts. August 31, 1979 is a night that their family will always remember. That night, John got shot in the face by an unknown person. His tongue was cut in half and his jaw was falling off and he lost a lot of blood. He was on the way to work that evening when a suspicious car drove by and shot at him and so he went the other direction to the nearest house and they helped him and called 911. He thought he was gonna die and he wanted to tell them what happened and he couldn't speak so he had to write it out on a piece of paper. Their family was supposed to go see The Muppet Movie that night, but he was too tired and so they canceled it. Cylin and her brothers were so upset because they were really looking forward to it. That's all that I read so far.
